Situation

How to create NSS volumes on the newly attached SAN box to the server

Resolution

To Create the new Volume on to the newly attached SAN box to the server, follow the steps listed below
  1. Type NSSMU at the server console and press Enter.
  2. Press Enter on Devices .
  3. Look at each device on the left-hand side and use the arrow up/down keys to move. Highlight each device and look for the new device (Hint: The new device will show very large "unpartitioned" space).
  4. Highlight the new device and press F3 to initialize it for use. (Make sure that the correct device is initiliazed. Initializing the wrong device may cause loss of data)
  5. Press Esc to reach the main menu and press Enter on Pools .
  6. Press Insert to create a new Pool and name the pool something meaningful related to the new SAN eg DMX-POOL and also set the size of the pool accordingly.
  7. Once the Pools is created, press Esc to reach the main and main menu and press Enter on Volumes .
  8. Press Ins to create a new Volume.When the new volume is created, it will show the new NSS partitioned space available. Assign the name and size to the volume and when complete, exit the NSSMU Utility and come back to the server console.
  9. Type Volumes at the console and it should show the new volume that was just created.
