Upgrade of GroupWise 7.0x Client to 8.x Fails with Error 1326

Upgrading the GroupWise 7.x client to 8.x can give an error similar to the following:

 

"Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file
c:\windows\installer\groupwise.msi"

 

This error can occur on either Windows XP or Vista workstation when executing SETUP.EXE or running the GROUPWISE.MSI.

 

Changing the installation destination path does not provide relief for this condition.

In rare cases, the Windows Installer can have problems with data created from previous installations.  In such cases, it will be necessary to run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility found at the following URL  http://support.microsoft.com/KB/290301 .

 

Once downloaded, please process the following steps:

 

1.  Install the utility on the workstation having the problem.

2.  Run the utility and select "All Users"  GroupWise 7.x and then click the "Remove" button.

3.  Delete the folder CROUPWISE under C:\\NOVELL

4.  Run the GroupWise Client install again
