Environment

Novell Identity Manager 3.5.1
Novell Identity Manager 3.6
Novell Identity Manager Driver - SAP
Novell Identity Manager Driver - SAP User Management

Situation

I have a SAP user driver that is setting passwords using the "User Set" method. Periodically we have users who can't login to SAP using the password that was set via the IDM driver. How do I troubleshoot this issue?

Resolution

Does the customer know what the password value is that the driver is trying to set? If so, someone should try to log in through SAPGUI as User XXXXX (password = the value of the driver default password) and attempt to reset the password to the value the driver is trying to use. There are a lot of SAP password policy related issues that could be indicated. A few examples:
- Password was used in recent password history
- Invalid length or other content-related problem
- User is not a Dialog user type
- Driver config forcing the password to uppercase (not likely)
A Level 5 trace of the Remote Loader side will show if a SAP error is getting generated.  If so, then one of the options listed above is normally the problem.  To resolve the issue, review all the password policies in the different operating systems involved and make sure that they are consistent.
