Environment

Novell iManager 2.7
Novell iManager 2.7 Password Management Plug-ins
Novell Identity Manager iManager Plug-ins

Situation

When modifying a Universal Password policy that has minimum lengths for certain properties set without maximum lengths of the same the following error messages may be erroneously shown. One result is that the password policy cannot be saved even though the maximum lengths are disabled.

The Maximum Password Length must be greater than the Minimum Password Length.

The Maximum Upper Case Characters must be greater than the Minimum Upper Case Characters.

The Maximum Lower Case Characters must be greater than the Minimum Lower Case Characters.

The Maximum Numeric values must be greater than the Minimum Numeric values.

The maximum non-alphanumeric characters must be greater than the minimum non-alphanumeric characters.

Resolution

To work around this issue first select and then deselect the maximum length option mentioned in the error message returned to the screen.  For example if the error is "The Maximum Password Length must be greater than the Minimum Password Length." then check the Maximum Password Length checkbox and uncheck it.  This should set a value in the maximum length field that is valid for the policy.  Even though this value is greyed out and not applied when the policy is saved it allows the checking in the Password Management plugin to save the password policy.

This issue is cosmetic and does not impose any limitations on passwords once worked around and will be fixed in a subsequent version of the Password Management plugins.
