ColW32 Default Trace Window
Diagnostic mode had been enabled before, but is disabled now.
A file has been created: %programfiles%\Novell\ZENworks\Asset Management\Bin\Options.txt and with the line: Diagnostic
Resolution
There are 3 possibilities when the "ColW32 Default Trace Window" will appear:
- To put the Collector (COLW32.EXE) in Diagnostic Mode, create the file %programfiles%\Novell\ZENworks\Asset Management\Bin\Options.txt and add the line:
Diagnostic
Save the file then restart the Collection Server Service. This will generate a diagnostic window that can be saved to a file. This log is good for showing the actual inventory scan and components being gathered. To stop the diagnostic mode, you have to delete the options.txt and restart the Collection Client Service. - In
the manager (on the server), expand Public collection option sets, then
select the option set being used. Under the general tab there is a
section called: Collector. Under the advanced button you can select
diagnostic. When a new scan has been requested, the changes will be
made on the workstation(s). This will cause the pop-up of a window when
diagnostic has been enabled. When the diagnostic has been disabled, the
changes will only be written to the workstation(s) when a new scan has
been requested. As long as no new scan has been requested, the
collector will run in diagnostic mode and a pop-up window will appear. This will happen for all devices using this option set.
- In the manager (on the server), expand Public collection option sets, then select the option set being used. Under the general tab there is a section called: Collector. Under the advanced button you can enter by advanced options: diagnostic. When a new scan has been requested, the changes will be made on the workstation(s). This will cause the pop-up of a window when diagnostic has been enabled. When the diagnostic has been disabled, the changes will only be written to the workstation(s) when a new scan has been requested. As long as no new scan has been requested, the collector will run in diagnostic mode and a pop-up window will appear. This will happen for all devices using this option set.
In general, changes made to the option set, will only be written to the workstation(s) when a new scan of this/these workstation(s) has been requested.
Additional Information
Sometimes you need to put a device in diagnostic mode for COLW32.EXE. If you have no direct access to the workstation, you can not use the options.txt method. You need to use the manager. In
the manager (on the server), expand Public collection option sets, then
select the option set being used. Under the general tab there is a
section called: Collector. Under the advanced button you can enter by
advanced options: Diagnostic; WorkstationName: xxxxx where xxxxx is the name of the device. When a new scan has been requested, the
changes will be
made on this specefic device.
