ZCM database using MS SQL 2005 has grown very large

Microsoft SQL 2005

Situation

MS SQL 2005 database has become very large, and continues to grow rapidly.

Resolution

  1. Logon to the SQL 2005 server as an administrator
  2. Launch 'SQL Server Management Studio' from the start menu
  3. Expand the section 'databases' and locate the relevant database
  4. Right-click on the database and choose 'properties'
  5. Select the page 'Options'
  6. Click 'OK'
  7. Right-click on the database and choose 'Tasks' - 'Shrink' - 'Database'
  8. Click 'OK'



Additional Information

Problem is that the transaction log grows significantly and is only truncated/cleared when doing backups.  If your last backup was some time ago, the issue may be that the log is too large.  Transaction logs are *.ldf files, search for those files and check to see how large they are.  Scheduling regular backups will help prevent this problem.
