Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management on Linux Support Pack 1 - ZDML7 SP1 Desktop Management

Situation

Settings made in a workstation group policy are not being applied
During (first) start of the workstation, the directory containing the group policy is not available (e.g. server down, no rights).

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, see KB 3484245 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

To correct the already present errors, please make a (dummy) change in the group policy. During the next start of the workstation, the policy will be downloaded again.

Additional Information

When a new workstation has been assigned a workstation group policy via a Workstation Package and the location of the files belonging to the group policy is unavailable (e.g. server down, missing rights, wrong path) the group policy will never be downloaded after the problem has been fixed. If the location of the group policy files is not available, changes are still made in the registry that the group policy is downloaded without problems and can be used by the workstation as a valid group policy. If the location problem has been corrected, the workstation will not download the group policy, but will still be using the default that has been copied in the cache directory upon installation.
