Environment

Novell GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA) 7 Support Pack 3 Hot Patch 2

Situation

Since applying GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3 Hot Patch 2 mail to Distribution Lists with use of Nicknames no longer work.

Resolution

This is working as designed, here is the workaround.  Please see the Additional Information section for more info on this issue.

Go into ConsoleOne and do the following:
  1. Connect to the owning domain of the GWIA.
  2. Select Gateways from the drop down list.
  3. Right click the GWIA object and select properties.
  4. Change the drop down section under the SMTP/MIME tab to Address Handling.
  5. Under the Inbound Settings section, check the "Expand distribution lists on incoming messages".
  6. Hit Apply and OK.  The GWIA should automatically restart, but you may have to restart the GWIA if the "Kill threads on exit or restart" switch is not set under the Settings drop down section of the SMTP/MIME tab.

Additional Information

Prior to GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3 Hot Patch 2, GroupWise had a loophole that if a group of users (such as a Distribution List) was nicknamed, people could send to it even if the global "All group expansion" flag was not set. That loophole is plugged with 7.03HP2. The current resolution is working as designed and is now working the way it was always meant to. Development is currently pursuing a additional method to give administrators the option to allow nicknamed groups to be expanded even if the settings is not enabled.
