Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux Open Enterprise Server

Situation

Error Request (CLIENT_ERROR) - bad status code (0x406)
IPP Error: 0x406
 
is returned when attempting to manage an iPrint printer with a space in the name after updating the novell-iprint-server RPM.


Exception reading manager information
Error Request (SERVER_ERROR) - bad status code (0x500)
IPP Error: 0x500

is returned when attempting to manage a Print Manager with a space in the name after updating the novell-iprint-server RPM.

Resolution

Download and install the latest iPrint iManager plug-in for Linux.

  • Go to download.novell.com
  • Select iPrint from the Product or Technology drop down list.  Click Search.
  • Choose the latest iPrint Plug-in for iManager
    • Note: As of the writing of this statement, the latest shows the date of 25 Dec 2008.  However, after the ZIP file is extracted the contents will show a Linux iPrint NPM with a 2009 date.
  • Clear the iManager cache
    • From the server which runs iManager, type this command:
    • rm -r /var/opt/novell/tomcat5/work
    • rcnovell-tomcat5 restart

Additional Information

The updated iprint server rpm can also cause an 1801 error when trying to install printers from the /ipp web page.
