Situation
Volumes should by default have the format
servername.volumename
The iManager > File Protocols > AFP plug-in will not allow the dot or period character in the name of the volume.

Resolution
This has been reported to engineering.
In the meantime you can edit the /etc/opt/novell/afptcpd/afpvols.conf file manually and restart the novell-afptcpd daemon to get the volumes to show up in this format.
The iManager AFP plug-in will now display the volume correctly but once you try to edit it you will not be able to save your change with a dot in the name.
