Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5

Situation

Local Product is created via the Web Console.  Win32 Platform is assigned to the local product.  After scanning a workstation with the local product present and its resultant wif file loaded, a second local product of same Name, Manufacturer, model is being created but with a Platform of Unassigned.

A second (or third) copy of a Local Product using the exact same product details is installed with a substitute executable from the product file structure as the primary executable.  The inventory scans list a second copy of the Local Product with a period (.) but no other product details.

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 Interim Release 22 or newer

Interim Releases can be scheduled to run automatically or can be downloaded manually at https://download.novell.com/patch/finder.  The Interim releases can be set up within the ZAM Manager for the Task server to check the site on a scheduled basis, and download and apply them automatically. Please refer to the Help Section details of how to set up automatic downloads if desired.

Each interim release is cumulative. If Interim Release 22 is not available due to a newer interim release being placed on the website, be assured that the code needed is in the later release.

Additional Information

The local product is actually a unique record since the Platform is different, however, when running reports without the platform field displayed, the report will appear as to be displaying duplicate local products.

If multiple installations of a Local Product are needed, each installation should be labeled uniquely and installed to a unique path and the product executable used the same on each installation so the unique installations can be identified in the inventory reports.
