Environment
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux
Situation
Multiple users cannot access the same Microsoft (MSFT) database (DB) at the same time.
The first user will access the DB just fine.
The second user (either from the same workstation or a different workstation) will appear to do nothing when attempting to access the same database.
No error is reported on the workstation or server.
A LAN (network) trace reports "Share mode on file conflict with open mode"

Resolution
See MSFT's kb article:
There is a problem in the application (Access) itself regarding sharing support. The above link lists some workarounds. Overall, this issue occurs due to a sharing feature limitation found in MSFT's Access 2003 or earlier versions of the application. The listed workaround solution, as suggested in the above MSFT link, is the only solution. While working with office 2007 or later versions, it is better to convert the format (.mdb to .accdb) by following the link (below) instead of using the workaround solution over and over.
The following link is MSFT's solution for converting old access DB formats to new formats.
