Environment

Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 7
Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 8

Situation

The server has a USB mouse and keyboard attached via a KVM switch.  After deleting the servcfg files from the sys:system directory to solve a timesync issue, the keyboard and mouse were no longer recognized.  The bios recognized them after a system restart but NetWare would not.

Resolution

To fix this, hdetect needs to be run again.  This process will recreate the startup.ncf file, so make sure that there is a current backup. Start the server normally.  Using either RCONSOLE, or another remote console utility to access the server console, run
    hdetect -MIR
at the command prompt. Check the startup.ncf file, compare with your backup, and re-add any necessary lines

Additional Information

The problem seems to be related to the interrupt reassignment information that is stored in the servcfg.nbk file.  When the file was deleted, the interrupt information was erased and not replaced when the servcfg files were rebuilt.
