Environment

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Server Management - ZfS65
Novell ZENworks for Servers 3.0.2 - ZfS302
Novell ZENworks for Servers 3.0 - ZfS3
Novell Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)
Novell ZENworks 7 Server Management Support Pack 1 - ZSM7 SP1 Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)

Situation

SYS volume out of disk space due to large SUBEVENT.TED file
ZENworks for Servers will write status info to the SUBEVENT.TED and DISTEVENT.TED but will never clean up these files

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Server Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, available at Novell Downloads
In order to activate the cleanup feature, add the following two properties in the TEDNode.properties file:
  1. distevent.cleanup - if this property is set to true then distEvent.Ted will be cleaned up when zsm starts up. Default value is false.
  2. subevent.cleanup - if this property is set to true then subEvent.Ted will be cleaned up when zsm starts up. Default value is false.
Note that if these two properties are set, then the two files will be cleaned up at every restart of the ZSM service.

Workaround:
Go to the Remote Web Console and clear the Subscriber and Distributor Event Log
Create a policy that will delete the files on a regular basis

Additional Information

The SUBEVENT.TED/DISTEVENT.TED files are used for the Subscriber/Distributor events shown through Remote Web Console. All events will be logged into the SUBEVENT.TED and DISTEVENT.TED but the files aren't cleaned automatically. On Distributors or Parent Subscribers these files could get quite large and will need to be cleaned on a regular basis.
The SUBEVENT.TED and DISTEVENT.TED files are written to the install directory of ZENworks for Servers, so if the install was done on the SYS volume and the working directory is on a separate volume, the SUBEVENT.TED and DISTEVENT.TED will still be written to SYS
