Configuration:

NMAS is disabled on all workstations and Universal password is not configured

The "OEM Extended ASCII password" setting set to "off" in the Novell Client Properties --> Advanced Login tab

IPX protocol being used

Situation

Unable to change password in ConsoleOne or NWADMIN32 but works in iManager

ERROR: "(Error -319) An internal program error has occurred" while changing the password in ConsoleOne

ERROR: "Error 1703: The password could not be changed. Error Code: 126: -319" while changing the password in NWADMIN32

Resolution

It was found that the password change failed only on workstations, which were attached to the primary server via IPX as seen in Novell Connections in the Novell Client properties. Password change was successful if primary server was attached via IP. To resolve issue, reinstall client and remove IPX or disable IPX on server.
