Environment

Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 HP1

Situation

Symptoms:

When the shared folder owners modify the access rights for a user who received the share, these modifications are properly implemented in the on-line mailbox of the intended users, but are not properly synchronized in his/her caching and remote mailbox.

The users who received the share will actually still have the old access right set when working in Caching or Remote mode, therefore will able to perform the related operations on the folder.

Resolution

Fixed starting from Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 HP2

Workaround:

If the Caching or Remote mailbox for the problem user is deleted and recreated, the access rights to the shared folder will be properly synchronized, however any further access right modification made from the owner will not be synchronized again.

Additional Information

Steps to Duplicate:
  1. Create 2 users, User A and User B either in the same or different Post Offices;Have User A to create a folder and to share it with User B granting Read,Add and Edit rights;
  2. Open User B mailbox in on-line mode, accept the folder share and create the caching mailbox;Restart the User B GroupWise client so to access the mailbox in caching mode and verify that the shared folder is properly synchronized with the rights given from the owner, then close the mailbox;
  3. Open the mailbox of the User A in on-line mode, ask the properties of the shared folder and modify the rights granted to User B, took away Add and Delete;
  4. Open the mailbox of the User B in caching mode, verify that the message "Shared folder access change" has been received, then ask for the properties of the shared folder and verify the rights:
  5. User B will still have Read,Add,Edit rights
  6. The rights seen by User B on the shared folder are effective, try to add a message in the shared folder will succeed;
  7. Restart the client so to access User B Mailbox in on-line mode;
  8. Check the rights that User B has on the shared folder, the on-line mailbox shows the proper rights as given by User A
