Situation
Preparing to split an NDS partition
Resolution
When splitting an NDS partition, the following suggestion should eliminate any Directory Services problems in a mixed environment.
1. Update all Netware servers involved in the replica ring to the current Support Pack. It may be necessary to reboot servers (as instructed in readme file).
2. If there is a NW6 server in the replica ring with a READ/WRITE (RW) copy of the parent partition, designate the NW6 server as the Master of that partition before splitting. Some partion operations in mixed replica rings (NDS 8 or eDirectory & NDS 6.x or 7.x) may not be successful (See Novell eDirectory 8.6 or greater NDS compatibility matrix for more information).
3. Use TID #3564075 NDS Health Check Procedures - Cross Platform on the servers that hold the Master of the parent & child partitions to check for partition/server health before performing this type of partition operation.
