Environment

Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 7

Situation

Although the NSS pool is active and the volume appears to be mounted from the point of view of the server,  we are unable to browse (map) to the NetWare volume from the client or see the data through ConsoleOne.  This and other server volumes ) can be accessed from the server console directly.  The general volume information (free space etc.) in Remote Manager is also visible.  If you run "NSSCPT -d -fixnames" the tool will report an nss error 20429 "zERR-LINK_IN_PATH" which means that the folder contains a link.

Resolution

The volume root entry has been corrupted and has a link attribute assigned to it.  This can be repaired by running the nsscpt.nlm utility which is included in the \TOOLS\NSSTOOLS\ directory included with the NetWare Support Packs.  Executing "NSSCPT help -attrib" will display the syntax for using the tool.  In this case the proper syntax will likely be: "NSSCPT <VOLUME NAME> -attrib -L -INCDIRS".
example: "NSSCPT VOL1:\ -ATTRIB -L -INCDIRS"
