Novell ZENworks Patch Management 6.4 - ZPM6.4

Situation

Windows Server 2008 is the latest release of Microsoft’s Windows Server Technologies. This article describes the necessary steps for managing Windows Server 2008 with Novell ZPM Update Server (PLUS) 6.4 SP1 or higher.

PLUS Configuration
 
Firewall
Patch signatures for Windows Server 2008 are available only through the replication new content architecture. The patch signatures will be downloaded from the Global Subscription Servers (GSS) Clusters but the remediation binaries (patches) will be downloaded from:
http(s)://www.download.windowsupdate.com.
 
Please consult your firewall administrator for any outbound firewall filters.
 
To enable the New Content Architecture
  1. Access your Update Server Web UI
  2. Go to the Options Section
  3. Click Configure
  4. Click the Content tab
  5. Select Enable
  6. Click Save
 
To configure Language Specific Subscription
  1. Access your Update Server Web UI
  2. Go to the Options Section
  3. Click Configure
  4. Click the Languages tab
  5. Select the languages for any language specific content that you want your Update Server to manage
  6. Click Save
 
System Requirements
 
  • NET Framework 3.0 or higher
  • 200 MB free disk space at time of installation
  • 50 MB of disk space once installed
  • Sufficient free disk space to download and install patches once installed
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 800 MHz Processor or higher
  • Local or Domain Administrator or Administrator equivalent access by user who is installing the agent

When will Novell ZPM be supporting Windows Server 2008 as an installation platform for ZPM Update Server?
Windows Server 2008 is not a supported platform for ZPM Update Server at this time. Windows Server 2008 is on the roadmap but no product announcement has been made on availability. Contact your sales representative for details.

Why doesn’t the Agent support Windows Server 2008 Core Editions?
There are some keys components that are required for the Agent to function properly that is not available on Windows Server 2008 Core. Windows Server 2008 Core Editions are on the roadmap but no product announcement has been made on availability. Contact your sales representative for details.

Do I need download and install .NET Framework 3.0 prior to installing the Agent?
No. The Agent installation program will enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 during installation setup. .NET Framework 3.0 is included as part of the Windows Server 2008 operating system but not enabled by default.
