Workstation GroupPolicy not being applied

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management

Situation

Workstation GroupPolicy is not being applied.

During the first time the GroupPolicy should be applied the location of the files for the GroupPolicy was unavailable.

Resolution

There are 2 possible workarounds:
  1. Make a (dummy) change to GroupPolicy. A disadvantage is that the GroupPolicy will be distributed to all other assigned workstations.
  2. On the workstation with problems remove the following registry key:
    HKLM/SOFTWARE/Novell/Workstation Manager/Group Policies/workstation

Additional Information

When a new workstation has been assigned a workstation GroupPolicy via a Workstation Package and the location is of the file belonging to the GroupPolicy is unavailable (e.g. server down, missing rights, wrong path) the GroupPolicy will never been downloaded after the problem has been fixed. If the location of the GroupPolicy files is not available, we still set in the registry that the GroupPolicy is available and can be used. If the location problem has been corrected, the workstation will not download the GroupPolicy, but will still be using the default that has been copied in the cache directory upon installation.
