Situation

After mistakenly uninstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable program (using the Add/Remove Programs applet), the Novell login screen completely fails to function after restarting the machine.At the main Vista login screen, another screen appears with a Cancel button and nothing else, rendering the machine unusable.

Resolution

Boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the Novell Client for Windows Vista, then reboot into normal mode and reinstall the Novell Client for Windows Vista.

Additional Information

The Novell Client for Windows Vista installs the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable package during the Client installation routine. It is needed for the proper operation of the Novell Client for Windows Vista, and should not be removed from the machine.
