Environment

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 1 - 10.1 Policies

Situation

In the Message Log window of a managed device, an informational message shows up when a Group Policy is applied.  The message is:  "Some security settings could not be configured." and/or "The Group Policy client-side extension Scripts failed to execute "

The policy applies the settings as expected.

Resolution

Adjust to "Apply all settings except security settings" under "Computer Configuration" and increment the Version of the Policy on the "Summary" tab.  The message should now go way after a policy refresh or system reboot.

Additional Information

The message is cosmetic and it has to do with the settings in the policy under the "Details" heading.  In the "Windows Group Policy Settings" there are options for what configuration settings to be applied on the managed device.  In this case the option for "Apply all settings" was enabled under the "Computer Configurations", however...the group policy didn't have any Security Settings configured.

If the "Apply all settings except security settings" option is checked then security settings only will not be applied. These are the  Settings under Computer configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings.
