Situation

Servers out of timesync due to misconfigured SLP
Error -602 in Time Synchronization status
Error -625 in Report Synchronization status
Problematic server does not display bindery services when "display slp services" is typed without quotes at the system console
Time is not in synchronization

Resolution

  1. Check whether the problematic server is able to communicate with all other servers in the network. This can be done by typing "ping X.X.X.X" at the server system console.
  2. If the above mentioned step yields negative result then the issue is with the network connectivity and physical network should be diagnosed to fix that. However, if it yields positive result then type "dsrepair -a" at the server system console.
  3. Navigate to "Advanced options menu" and press enter.
  4. Navigate to "Servers known to this database" and press enter.
  5. Press enter on any of the server in the list and then it will open a small window; select the "Repair all network addresses" option and press enter.
  6. After performing the above mentioned step, exit to the server system console and type "dsrepair -a" at the server system console.
  7. Navigate to the "Time synchronization" option and check the timesync status. If it still shows -602 error, exit to the server system console.
  8. At the server system console type "set dstrace=*u" and perform step 6 and 7 to check the time synchronization status.
  9. If the above mentioned steps does not resolve the issue the next step is to check the SLP configuration. Type "Monitor" at the server system console. This will open up Novell Console Monitor.
  10. Navigate to Server parameters | Service Location Protocol and then scroll down to the SLP Scope List option. Press enter and then it will allow to put the value. Make sure that the correct Scope Name is specified there. After making the changes save the setting by pressing enter again.
  11. Then in the same menu scroll down to the SLP Static Scope List. Make sure that it is set to ON. If it is not, press enter to change it to ON. Press the ESC key to get to the server system console.
  12. Type "edit" at the server system console. Press the insert key to have it show all the listed volumes. Navigate to SYS | ETC | SLP.CFG file and press enter. It will open up the SLP configuration file. Put the IP address of the DA server if it is not already there in the following format "DA IPV4, X.X.X.X", where X.X.X.X will be the IP address of the DA server. If the server itself a DA then there is no need to put the IP address in the configuration file. Press ESC to save the file and exit to the server system console.
  13. At the server system console type "set slp reset=on". This command will re-load the SLP configuration with the newer setting.
  14. Type "display slp services" at the server system console and check for the bindery.novell services in the list. If it does not show up, reset the server by typing "reset server" at the server system console.
  15. Check the Time Synchronization and Report Synchronization and now it should show it without any error.

Additional Information

Notes:
