Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 1 - 10.1

Situation

When you deploy a managed agent, what can you look for on the client to help troubleshoot?

Resolution

Aside from setting debug to finest on the server, and agent logging to debug on the proxy (for linux servers) to see errors in loader-messages.log and zmd-messages.log (per TID 3418069), the following will be copied to the managed device:

Deployment first copies a zdpaserv.exe to admin$\system32 or syswow64.

zdpaserv.exe is installed as a service and the server connects to that service and sends a command to execute the preagent.

The service executes the PreAgent file and sends back the status to the server.  It also logs to the device log c:\remotesvc.log.  Preagent files are extracted and are first copied to C:\Windows\Novell\Zenworks\stage folder.

After the preagent runs it logs to the device's Application event log.

Test that from the server or proxy the following is available:

On the device named pipes (server service) may be used.
