Log files are mixing with message files

Occasionally an email will be received containing what looks like log data from the GWIA.
Large amount of emails may be marked as bad and placed in the GWIA problem directory.
Emails in the GWIA Problem directory contain portions of the GWIA log.
Text file attachments may contain portions of the GWIA log.
The GWIA system console display may quit logging, though statistics show emails being processed.
The physical logs, from the GWIA, may contain data gaps, one log will end and a new log will pick up some time later, such as two hours later.
The physical logs, from the GWIA, are not all the same size, one may be 1024KB and another may be 100KB.


This is believed to have been fixed in:
GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3 HotPatch 2
GroupWise 8 HotPatch 1
While this is reportedly fixed, there is still some on going investigation to track down additional factors, that trigger this affect, that could be caused by the operating systems upon which they run.  Adjustments have been made to the GWIA that helps to improve the handling of these situations.

Additional Information

This problem does not exist in any known version of GroupWise 7 Support Pack 2 or older.  This problem was reported in the GWAC.DB prior to Support Pack 3 and fixed in Support Pack 3.  Fixing the GWAC.DB problem has made the cause of the error more apparent in the GWIA by affecting the logs and messages more directly.  This comes as a result of the file handles and processes used to open/close files.   GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3 HotPatch 2 includes fixed code to help compensate for this.

There are no current steps to duplicate. 

The only work around is to either restart the GWIA or restart the server.  Restarting the server seems to keep the problem away for longer periods of time, this may vary on a case by case scenario. 

Missing log data can be typically found in the messages that were sent during this time, as well as any log data found in messages can sometimes be found in the time/data gaps of the GWIA log.
