Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 7
Novell GroupWise 32 bit Client

Situation

Auto-Archiving path is set from ConsoleOne.
Archive path can be either a network server or a local drive.
Mail is not archived, because archive folder is not created.
Archive is not created until the client manually opens archive.
Once archive is created, the client may be restarted and Auto-Archiving will kick in.

Resolution

Engineering has determined that this is working as designed.  GroupWise is not designed to discern between a server working as an archive point or a workstation working as an archive point.  This will be considered for the future.

Additional Information

Steps to duplicate:
From ConsoleOne:
1) Go into either Client options of either the domain or post office, under environment.
2) Make sure Auto-Archive is set under the Cleanup and make sure it is locked for good measure.
3) In the File Location set the UNC path to a directory either of a Network server or to a local hard drive, lock it or leave it unlocked, it does not matter.
4) Once the changes have flowed down through the system, open up a client.
5) Check the path of the archive in the client option, environment, File location. Hit OK. Notice once OK is hit, no prompt is given to create directory, either as a Network path or a local hard drive path.
6) Manually go and check the proposed archive path, notice that since the client has been opened, you can even close and open the client again, no archive was created.
7) From the client, go up to File, Open Archive. The archive folder is now created.
8) Once the client is closed and reopened, emails will now archive according to settings.
