Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management
Situation
Deployable devices discovered by Discovery process may be listed with Operating System type Unknown.
Resolution
- Check that the prerequisites at target device are met for WinAPI. See 1.3 IP Discovery Technologies in the ZCM Documentation, "ZENworks 10 Configuration Management Discovery, Deployment, and Retirement Reference"
- Check that ZCM server or Windows discovery proxy device can map to the admin share of the targeted device. Test by running:
net use \\<target device ip>\IPC$
or
net use \\<target device ip>\ Admin$
with appropriate credentials. - Check that the credentials provided in the discovery task are correct.
Additional Information
It's not necessary that the operating system be listed in the deployable devices, but it can indicate a problem that will later manifest as errors when deployment is attempted.
