Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management Zenworks Control Center - ZCC
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management System Update
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management - ZCM 10
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 1 - ZCM 10.1

Situation

After installing or upgrading to ZCM 10.0.3, a new designed System Updates functionality is available.

When editing System Updates information in ZCC, you can create Deployment Stages while each Deployment Stage has a so called Stage Timeout

If you set a Stage Timeout to 0 days, 0 hours & 0 minutes, the following error comes up and will keep appearing when you try to access the System Updates Configuration page in the ZENworks Control Center again:

"...
Novell ZENworks Control Center has encountered an error. The details of the error are shown below.
...
java.lang.ClassCastException: com.novell.zenworks.tess.util.schedules.ImmediateSchedule
..."

This error also appears when setting & enabling a default Stage Timeout  of 0 days, 0 hours & 0 minutes for all stages. That parameter is available in ZCC at Configuration -> Infrastructure Management -> System Update Settings -> Stage Timeout Settings

Resolution

If you get the above error message after doing such a setting on a specific Deployment Stage, please contact Novell Support for correcting the Stage Timeout value in the sql database.

This is fixed in version 10.1 - see KB 7001200 "ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with SP1 (10.1)" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
ZCM 10.1 and newer does not allow setting a Stage Timeout of all 0's on a specific Deployment Stage.

If you enabled such a Stage Timeout as default for all stages, you can go back to Infrastructure Management System Update Settings Configuration page and correct the setting.

Additional Information

ZCC should not allow you to set a stage timeout to 0 at all. Please avoid setting a stage timeout of 0.

Novell engineering changed ZCC with the release of ZCM 10.1 to not allow a Stage Timeout of 0 at a specific Deployment Stage. That timeout defines the time until every device being member of a Deployment Stage is required to have an assigned system update applied... and it will definitely take more than 0 minutes for any device to apply a system update.
