Environment

Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 8 Hot Patch 1

Situation

Situation :

Logged in as user without administrative privileges and then logged into groupwise client and trying to access address book results in error " The "MAPI Session Handle" of the Novell Groupwise `Object Request Broker` could not be accessed . The address book cannot run (error status: 0x80004005). "
If logged in as admin user or user with administrative rights , and then logging into groupwise client , allows access to the groupwise address book just fine .
Subsequent access to the address book works just fine after that , even if logged in to the workstation as user without the administrative rights .

Resolution

Reported to engineering.

Workaround :

Make the users members of the local administrative group.

Additional Information

      Steps to duplicate:

  1. Install Groupwise 8 or Groupwise 8 Hot Patch 1 agents at the server side.
  2. On a Winxp workstation, Install Groupwise 8 client or Groupwise 8 Hot Patch 1 client .
  3. Login to the winxp workstation , as an user without administrative privileges .
  4. Login to groupwise client and try to open the address book. You will not be able to access the address book. Will get an error " The "MAPI Session Handle" of the Novell Groupwise `Object Request
Broker` could not be accessed . The address book cannot run (error status: 0x80004005). "
  5. Now log out of the winxp workstation and login as an administrator or an user with administrative privileges .
  6. Login to groupwise client as the user and now you can access the address book.
  7. Once it is done , log out of the winxp workstation and login as an user without administrative rights to the workstation . The address book can be
    accessed fine from now on.

First time , after installing the groupwise 8 client , to access the address book , user need administrative rights to the workstation to be able to access the address book. Subsequent access just works fine even without administrative rights to the workstation.
