Situation
While trying to connect to a CIFS share, with the Novell server setup for Domain Passthrough authentication, the following error is received:
System error 58 has occurred. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
Resolution
When setting up the domain passthrough authentication under CIFS, the domain/workgroup must be specified (as found under iManager > FILE PROTOCOLS > CIFS > Select the server > PROPERTIES button > AUTHENTICATION tab).
When specifying a domain/workgroup such as novell.local, remove the ".local" and save the setting. This means that in the case of a domain called novell.local, only "novell" (without quotes) will be specified in the domain/workgroup field. ".local" is considered special. For all other domains (ie, novell.com, novell.org, and so on), specify the full domain name--including the dot and extension.
Restart CIFS after making any changes.
