Environment

Novell Client 4.9 for Windows NT/2000/XP

Situation

Login script is slow to be read
Login script shows "Attach to server", then pauses for 20 seconds

Resolution

Remove the file that is trying to be found on the network (identified in LAN trace) from the scan list within the configuration settings of Inoculan or eTrust.

Configure the scanning software to exclude files that login scripts.  Also configure ConsoleOne.exe to be excluded from the scanning software.

Additional Information

A LAN trace shows the client request to download the login script from NDS.  After the request, a good login would show the login script, saved in NDS as a stream file, download to the workstation so the client can process it.  However, in this scenario, the LAN trace shows the workstation attempting to resolve a name that doesn't exist on the network.  The workstation tries NDS, SLP, WINS, NETBios, and SAP.  Each resolution protocol has it's own timeout values.  The name is never found and then the workstation eventually requests to download the stream file and everything is fast after that.  This is caused by a mis-configuration in the anti-virus software for the workstation.  Specifically, an Inoculan IT file is being scanned repeatedly on login.
