Environment

Novell GroupWise 6.5

Situation

GroupWise restore will not create folders in the live system.
Restoring mail to the original database which has the original folders will put the mail in the correct folder.
If you use the old user database that has the original folder, restored mail will go to the right folder when restored. Otherwise if no folder exists or if you create the folder manually, the item will be placed in the mailbox folder.

Resolution

This has been reported to development.
Possible workaround:

Load the POA with /nomta and /home (pointing to restored area) switch. Depending on where you load it other switches may have to be used.
Login to the old post office with the client. Archive everything. Exit and then login to live system and unarchive.

Additional Information

STD:

1) Populate a mailbox with subfolders in the cabinet folder which contain mail messages.

2) Make a backup of the post office.

3) Create a restore area for the backup copy of the post office.

4) Drop the user from the guard and allow a new user database to be created.

5) Login as the user and open the backup area.

6) Restore some of the mail from the cabinet folders.

Notice that the mail gets placed in the mailbox folder of the live system instead of creating the corresponding folder like an unarchive would.
