Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 for All Platforms
Novell eDirectory 8.8 for All Platforms

Situation

A server that has been removed from the tree still appears as a value on the sssActiveServerList attribute on partition root objects even though the obituary successfully processed.

Resolution

The value for sssActiveServerList is written when the SecretStore modules initialize and is removed when the SecretStore modules are unloaded. When you decommission a server you should first unload the SecretStore modules and then remove it from the tree, otherwise these values will remain. No process, including the obituary process, will automatically remove these old values from the tree once the server has been removed. Their presence, however, will not break SecretStore functionality.

If these values are in the tree, either due to removing a server from the replica ring while it was up or due to a server crash, the administrator can clean up the entry after the fact using a tool such as iManager or ConsoleOne.
