Situation

Symptoms:
Mail merge does not work with Microsoft Word and GroupWise Client
Mail merge does not work with Office 2007
Mail merge does not work with Office XP
Mail merge does not work with Office 2003
Mail merge does not work with Microsoft Word and GroupWise Client
Mail merge does not work in HTML format
Mail merge works in Plain text format
Mail merge works in Attachment format
Mail merge works if the Mail format is Plain text or Attachment

Resolution

This is Working as Designed. It seems that there are no published APIs to allow Mail merge to work in HTML Format with any other Client apart from Outlook
Workaround Steps:
Use the mail merge with Plain text or Attachment format
OR
If HTML, Plain text and Attachment format is needed, make sure Microsoft Outlook is installed and follow the steps listed below
1. Click Start | Run and type Regedit and click OK
2. Right Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and Click Export
3. Save the file to c:\hklm.reg
4. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5. Expand SOFTWARE
6. Expand Clients
7. Highlight Mail
8. Change the (Default) key from "GroupWise" to "Microsoft Outlook" without quotes
