Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Inventory

Situation

in ConsoleOne Properties of Inventory Service Object "Manage Unidentified Software " button brings up an empty list, or software from a particular device is missing. The "Report files with these file extensions as unidentified software " button brings up a list of extensions that should be resolved on a workstation.

Resolution

Start with the workstation local files in %systemdrive%\zenworks and \program files\novell\zenworks\debuglogs\invpol.log and look for the errors noted in Additional Information in this TID. This will determine if the problem is occurring in the scan on the workstation, and not a rollup or server communication issue.
If the errors occur in the logs, use ConsoleOne with -showhiddenobjects to look at the workstation inventory policy, for example:
Workstation Package:Windows XP:Workstation Inventory Policy
Check in other tab for zeninvDictionaryPath attribute.
Check that the workstation objects associated with this policy have sufficient rights to read this attribute.
