Conferencing LDAP configuration replaces spaces with plus symbol in screenname

Configuration:
Novell Conferencing is installed correctly.
Novell Conferencing is configured to use LDAP authentication against eDirectory

Situation

Symptoms:

  • Users who login to eDirectory with “Firstname Lastname” logins cannot login to Conferencing.
  • Users with login ID's that contain a space cannot login to Conferencing.
  • User ID's with spaces have the spaces replaced with a plus symbol “+”.
  • To login to Conferencing user must replace space in login ID with a plus symbol “+”.

Resolution

Corrective Actions:
This problem has been reported to development.

Workaround:
Remove the spaces from the user login ID's.

Root Cause:
The Conferencing LDAP implementation converts spaces to plus symbols “+”.

Common configuration is that in eDirectory the User ID has a space in it. For example the User ID (uid) maybe a “Firstname Lastname” like “John Doe”. If this is the case and then LDAP authentication is configured in Novell Teaming+Conferencing then the login for Teaming will still be “john doe” but the login for the Conferencing will be “john+doe”.

Also, if you configure the Teaming LDAP synchronization to include the zonName option (zonName=uid) it will populate the zon name field in Teaming but it will be incorrect and need to be modified to replace the space with a plus symbol “+”.
