Novell GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA) 6.5
Novell GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA) 7
Configuration:
Gateway Aliases being used

Situation

Gateway Alias does not work when a picture is inserted in the mail
Gateway Alias works when sending a Text or an HTML Message
Gateway Alias fails to work when sending an HTML Message with a picture

Resolution

1. Edit GWIA.CFG file.
2. Type "/froa " without quotes at the very bottom of the file.
3. Save GWIA.CFG.
4. Exit GroupWise Internet Agent by pressing F7 on the GWIA screen.
5. Start GroupWise Internet Agent. Normally this is done by typing "gwia " at the Console.

Additional Information

Root Cause:
When the client has to reference items in the html (like picture attachments),
it generates a MIME which it sends to the gwia along with the attachment. Once
the GWIA generates the header it just passes the mime through. Since the GWIA
has access to the gateway alias records (in the domain database), it is able to
resolve the name to the correct alias so the MAIL FROM tag in the header is
correct. But since the client does not have access to the alias records (they
are not in the host database), the From: field in the data section has the
non-alias address.
With a simple text message (plain or HTML), no mime is generated by the client;
the gwia actually creates it and it uses the correct alias
Steps to Duplicate:
1. Create a user named "Matthew" in the GroupWise System.
2. Make sure that the Preferred Addressing format is "userid@internetDomainname".
3. Now create an alias for "Matthew" in the GroupWise System as
"chandler@internetDomainName".
4. Now send a text mail or an HTML mail without picture from Matthew's user account to any hotmail/gmail/yahoo or any other account.
5. Login to the recipient's account and try replying. The reply to address should be "chandler@internetDomainName".
6. Now send an HTML mail with picture from Matthew's user account to hotmail/gmail/yahoo or any other account.
7. Login to the recipient's account and try replying. The reply to address would be "matthew@internetDomainName"
This is because when a plain text mail or HTML mail without picture is sent, the FROM
Field will be "chandler@internetDomainName". However if a picture is inserted in
the mail, the FROM Field changes to "matthew@internetDomainName" as MIME is generated on the Client.
