Situation

Workstation manager brings down group policies from both XP tab and NT-2000-XP tab

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, available at https://download.novell.com

This fix is enabled with this registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\ZENWorks]

"EnablePlatformSpecificPolicyPrecedence"=dword:00000001

The fix makes it so that the ZEN agent only brings down a single group policy if there a multiple group policies of the same type in the same package. The platform specific policy will take precedence over the NT-2000-XP tab policy.


Additional Information

An example of when this fix might be used is when an organization has ZEN 3.x agents on W2K workstations. The 3.x workstations can only read the NT-2000-XP tab, where the W2K GP is. ZEN 3.X workstations aren’t aware of an XP tab or W2K tab.

If the organization rolls out ZEN 7 to XP boxes and they configure the XP policies in the XP

Tab, without this fix, the XP workstations bring down both the XP tab group policies and the NT-2000-XP tab group policies where they’re configured for W2K workstations. W2K group policies can only be applied to W2K workstations.
