Environment

Novell Access Management 3 Linux Access Gateway

Situation

Trying to install Linux Access Gateway on an IBM Blade Server, HS21, Intel Dual Core 5110 1.60 GHz/1066MHz 4 MB L2 cache, and with 1 GB RAM. During the installation, the CDROMdevice on the Blade server was not recognised. This IBM Blade server is using a USB connected CD-ROM.

Resolution

When doing a silent install of the Linux Access Gateway (LAG), one need not mount the cdrom - installation will be smooth with no issues in silent install. With the manual installation mode, the following steps need to be performed (local cd rom has to be mounted manually)

1. During LAG install in manual installation, wait for the kernel modules stage
2. Go to USB module
3. Select USB storage device module
4. And load them (USB mass storage device driver)
5. proceed with the installation.

Additional Information

For installs where the CD is not available, the following workaround may also be applied:

1. copy the LAG iso image (e.g. lag.iso) to an FTP/NFS server locally.
2. Mount the iso file on the remote server (mount -o loop lag.iso /dir)
3. During LAG installation menu, select "Manual Installation" option & proceed with FTP/NFS installation
4. Go to Start installation & specify the "Network Media" -> NFS/FTP (provide the FTP server IP, user name, directory location(/dir)).

Note:You need to manually load the ethernet module (Kernel Modules(Hardware Drivers)->Load Network Card Modules->select 3com/e100 based on the network card)
