Collection servers randomly show as unavailable in manager

Oracle 9i (9.2.07)
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition


Collection servers would show as unavailable at random intervals during the day and/or overnight. No pattern to which servers would do this, or at what time during the day or night. Required a full restart of the collection server to restore connectivity. The following error code was noted in the collection server log files:
Database Persistence Layer Error in DBOracleErrorHandler::serverError
at 08/05/2007 12:37:15
Database Error
[2.5.3] Error: '[5] SQL call failed.' Message 1: '[12154] 08004'
Message 2: '[1] SQL call failed.'


Stop the ZAM and Oracle services on the server
Uninstall the ODBC driver
Delete all of the oracle related registry entries from the problem server
Stop ZAM and Oracle services
Reinstall ODBC driver
Start services

Repeat above steps for every affected server.
