Nrm (portal) shows no icons and goes to the wrong address after logging in

The usual icons were not visible when loading Nrm on a workstation browser. After logging into the target server, Nrm would go to wrong address such as the Novell logo instead of the main server screen. Then hitting the back button in the browser would take the user correctly into Nrm.NRM and the login screen is missing the icons. Login and it takes you to a URL like this:
https://ipaddress:8009/sys/login/new_spacer.gif(one of the 2 icons missing). Hit the back button and it takes you into NRM. Logout and login (without closing browser) and icons work fine.
