Wake-on-LAN service doesn't read eDirectory on Startup

Environment

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management Support Pack 2 - ZDM6.5 SP2 Desktop Management
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management

Situation

Set a Wake-on-LAN (WOL) server policy to send WOL packets immediately and repeat periodically.  Restart Wakeup on LAN service on the server with StartWOL.NCF.  The service does not begin sending WOL packets until eDirectory is read.

This can cause confusion since other server policies are read at server startup.

Resolution

The Wake-on-LAN service does not read associated policies on startup.  It reads its policies when its lookup schedule is activated.  Check the properties of the WOL service in ConsoleOne and set the lookup schedule appropriately.

Use the Wake-on-LAN property page to configure the schedule for the Wake-on-LAN service to lookup and read the Wake-on-LAN policy from eDirectory.
