Environment
Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES)
Situation
Deploying eDirectory 8.8 on Open Enterprise Server SP2
Resolution
When installing eDirectory 8.8 on Open Enterprise Server SP2, you should read the eDirectory 8.8 Readme and Documentation available athttps://www.novell.com/documentation/edir88/index.html. Also, KB 10099872 (https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=10099872) lists the supported products with eDirectory 8.8.
If you want to deploy eDirectory 8.8 on OES Linux, see"Upgrading Through ZENworks Linux Management" (https://www.novell.com/documentation/edir88/edirin88/data/af7r5d7.html#af7r5d7) in the Novell eDirectory 8.8 Installation Guide.
Additionally, you should be aware of the following issues:
OES Linux Requires Newer NCP Engine
To upgrade to eDirectory 8.8 on OES Linux SP2, you must use the "oes-edir88" channel which includes the needed NCP engine.
"Warning: Do not install eDirectory 8.8 without first installing the newer NCP engine for eDirectory 8.8 or your server might be rendered inoperable. Also, do not install this updated NCP engine on a server running eDirectory 8.7.3."
Migration WizardThe current version of Migration Wizard does not work with eDirectory 8.8. You should complete all your migration operations before deploying eDirectory 8.8.

Cannot Install NetWare 6.5 Licenses
If you are running a pure Linux replica ring (meaning a tree with only Linux servers), you cannot install a NetWare 6.5 server and add licenses to the tree. To resolve this, first install a NetWare server without licenses, and then create a NetWare replica ring. With the replica ring created, you can install the NetWare licenses.
