Environment

Novell GroupWise Messenger 1.0
Novell GroupWise 6.5
Novell GroupWise 7
Novell GroupWise 32 bit Client
Launch Messenger at Startup

Situation

Multiple GroupWise 6.5 users share a workstation and all have Launch Messenger at Startup (Client Option) selected.
GroupWise Client is upgraded from 6.5 to 7.
Now GroupWise Messenger will auto-launch only for the user who conducted the client upgrade.
GroupWise Messenger will no longer auto-launch for the remaining users who did not conduct the upgrade.
This Client Option is not represented in any GroupWise database but is an HKEY_CURRENT_USER regsitry setting.
See Additional Notes for a more detailed description.

Resolution

Resolution:
This has been redesigned in GroupWise 8 as a Client Option instead of a registry setting.

Workaround Steps:
Each user on that shares the workstation will have to go to Tools|Client Options|Environment (in the GroupWise 7 client) and uncheck then recheck the Launch Messenger at Startup option.

Additional Information

With the GroupWise 6.5 client, the default action was to launch messenger upon startup of the client. There is a checkbox in Client Options (Environment tab)
that allowed users to disable this functionality. With GroupWise 7 the reverse is now true. The default action is to NOT launch messenger upon startup of the
client and the Client Option allows users to set it so it does launch. In both versions of GroupWise, the Client Option is not stored in any GroupWise
database but is a registry setting under HKEY_Current_User so that users sharing the same computer can have different settings.

For example, all users at a company want messenger to auto-launch and had it set to do so in GW 6.5 (of course it was the default action so they didn't
have to do anything). As of the 7 upgrade, only the user who was logged in for the client upgrade gets the registry update to auto-launch Messenger. The rest of the
users who share the computer do not have a registry update and as the default action is now to NOT launch messenger, it will not launch for them. When they
go into Client Options, it still shows a checkmark in the box to Launch Messenger on Startup even though there is no registry entry to support it. The users have to uncheck and recheck that setting for
it to write to the registry and start working.
