Situation

Cannot launch GPEDIT.EXE via ConsoleOne (User Policy Package>[Windows Version]>Windows Group Policies> Properties>Edit Policies) on some workstations.

Users on other workstations can successfully 'Edit Policies' for Windows Group Policies in ConsoleOne.

MMC.EXE and GPEDIT.EXE (MMC>Console>Add/Remove Snap-in>Add>select Group Policy>Add>Finish>Close>OK) will launch on the workstation outside ConsoleOne on the workstations getting the'...currently being edited by another user...' error.

Resolution

Delete the [Windows Directory]\SYSTEM32\gpInUse folder if it exists.

Additional Information

Check to see if there is the following directory on your workstation where you're running ConsoleOne:

[Windows Directory]\SYSTEM32\gpInUse

This folder is created whilst a Group Policy is being edited by ZENworks. The folder should be deleted automatically when the editing session finishes, but if the session did not terminate normally (system crash, etc.) then the folder may be left behind. ZENworks will then believe that a Group Policy is still being edited.
