Environment
Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)
Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 for Linux
Novell eDirectory 8.8 for Linux
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Situation
Typing " NDSSTAT " at the server console never returns eDirectory's status - hangs.
eDirectory terminal utilties will not respond.
Resolution
These issues are normally related to bad address resolve
information in any of the following areas:
/etc/hosts - this should only have the server's dns name and its loopback.
/etc/hosts.nds - this file is not required if DNS or SLP name resolution is in place. Rename the file and restart ndsd.
(NOTE: if this file exists no other name resolution will take place.)
In this case the /etc/hosts.nds file did not have all the required servers listed. This file was renamed, ndsd restarted and the issue was resolved.
