Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management
Situation
ZCM Agent can not be uninstalled nor reinstalled.
Error as seen in the ZENPreAgent.InstallErr
ERROR: Exception During Install: The specified service already exists
Attempting Rollback.
Rollback Complete.

Exception during start: Cannot start service ZENPreAgent on computer '.'.
Attempting Rollback.
Rollback Complete.
Continuing...

Resolution
Download and use the "ZCM 10.2.x/10.3.x Agent Cleanup Utility" from https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=DzvzjViJZoM~
Workaround:
to clean up or remove the ZCM Agent, follow these steps:
First try to uninstall the ZCM Agent and CASA installs via add/remove programs, if that does not work.
Next go into the zenworks/bin directory and run that uninstall. This works to allow you to reinstall the client. If that fails, or leaves residual files, follow the steps below.
- Delete the C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks directory (if the ZAM or other agents are installed, you will not be able to delete this directory.)
- Delete the C:\Program Files\Novell\CASA directory
- Delete the C:\Windows\Novell directory
- To remove the Novell ZENworks services that may be remaining, from a command prompt run the following command: (insert the service name for "serv")
net stop serv -u
sc delete serv -u - Run regedit and delete all instances of ZENworks and CASA (that deal with ZENworks, keep in mind if you are using other ZENworks agents.)
- Reboot the PC
You should now be able to install the ZCM Agent again if desired.
Additional Information
This procedure should only be attempted as a last resort, when uninstalling through add/remove programs does not work.
