Situation
A workstation
policy distributes a NDPS printer to a workstation. After the
distribution of this printer the driver settings will be changed in
order to fit to the printer environment. E.g. Duplex Unit
installed, Paper Size, Amount of Memory.
If some times later a second printer will be installed through the same workstation policy. The first and the new (second) printer driver will be installed to the workstation instead of installing just the new one. After the distribution all the setting are lost of the first printer.
You can deduce from additional testing that there is no different between an NDPS or legacy printer object.
The printer distribution process does save the information about an installed printer by using the following registry keys.
HKLM\\Software\NOVELL\Workstation Manager\Printer Data\路NDS Tree name路\路Printer name路
Contains all the information about the printer configuration data like Forms, Memory, and Duplex Unit.
HKLM\\Software\NOVELL\Workstation Manager\Printers\Force Install
By setting the value to 1 the printer drivers will always be installed when the workstation logs in. Default is 0.
HKLM\\Software\NOVELL\Workstation Manager\Printers\路Printer name路
Contains information about the Last Update Time.
Although that the workstation distribution process does track about each individual printer data information and the timestamp of the distributed printers, the distribution process will install the entire printer drivers which are defined in a workstation policy.

Resolution
This problem has
been fixed with a newer version of WMPRTNT.DLL 26DEC2001 this is
for use with the 4.81 and 4.82 clients.
