Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Error: "Out of Range"

When installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop or Server the monitor can report an "Out of Range" error right after you hit enter on the Install option. What this error means is that your monitor can't handle the resolution setting you are setting for the installation. This doesn't mean that you monitor doesn't support that particular resolution. Remember that you are using some generic settings for displaying the screens during the installation of the product. The very last screen is where you configure your actual monitor or graphics card.

Resolution

Choose a lower resolution for the installation of your system. This is done by pressing F3 (for more options) and then F3 again (for the resolution). Try selecting 800 x 600. Most monitors don't have any problem with that resolution. Then at the end of the installation you can try configuring your monitor to a higher resolution when you setup your graphics card and monitor settings.
