/etc/nsswitch.conf specifies lookup processes which include wins

Situation

  • Processes switch to the C locale
  • Processes do not recognise non-ASCII characters like à, á, â,ä, æ, ß as printable characters.
  • Files whose names contain non-ASCII characters cannot be accessed, processed or backed up.

Update to samba-winbind version 3.0.24-2.23 (from zypp patch 3044) or newer. A fixed version is included in Service Pack 1.
